VENUE OVER EVERYTHING

This is a big one for me. People generally don’t want to be traveling around on NYE. It’s a big night for partying so they generally want to play it safe by either hiring a driver or booking a hotel.

So why not choose a hotel as your wedding venue. It will ensure that your guests will be truly taken care of. Another big plus for hosting a wedding at a hotel is that you truly can do everything in one location, cutting out the need to move around in the cold or organize transportation for your bridal party from location to the next.

Luckily we live in a beautiful area where everywhere you turn is another great Boston Hotel. In my work I’ve come across some amazing hotels that cater to the guest’s experience. The Newbury Hotel for the art deco lover with a moody interior or The Mandarin Hotel for those wanting a more worldly experience catered around luxury stays. If you're wanting more of an elevated and elegant vibe, The Fairmount Copley. No matter what you are wanting to experience Boston area has plenty to offer.

ENFORCE A DRESS CODE

Help your guests by providing them with a clear dress code. This will also set the mood for the event. You could do something like Black Tie but keep it Sparkly. Wording it like this will ensure people know to dress it up but also have fun with it and be festive. Often time guests want the direction of how to dress. It takes the work out of finding something and puts some fun in it. Additionally you know that everyone attending will be dressed appropriately for the party you’re hosting.

HONOR THE HOLIDAY

First and foremost it is a wedding to celebrate you both but people also want to celebrate the start of a New Year. To make it festive and memorable plan some key moments to honor the night. For example do a countdown to midnight. Have a ballon drop or provide confetti poppers. Another idea is a New Years eve champagne toast. Any of these are great ways to give your guests an elevated experience.

MUSIC

Make sure you choose the right music. It is a party after all and music and dancing are key to having a great night. I never like to choose DJ over band or vice versa but in this case I would opt for a live band. Choose someone who can handle playing todays hits with a blend of classics. Live bands really know how to keep the people engaged. Truly there is nothing worse than a dead dance floor and if you are going to be partying until midnight it will take an expert in the field of entertainment to help guide you there.

BOOK THE EXTRA TIME WITH YOUR PHOTOG

Most likely your celebration of the midnight countdown will be more of an afterparty highlight if the venue has a cap on reception time. But making sure your photographer is there to capture these fun moments your planning is super important. These are moments not to be missed and documenting them will provide you with memories for a lifetime. Plenty of Photographers even have Collections where they offer After Party Coverage.
