A Historic Gem of the NorthShore -Misselwood Estate

Nestled on a shoreline in Beverly Farms, MA stands tall a beautiful historic estate that is host to wedding celebrations from May to October. Misselwood truly has all the parts you could want wrapped up in one venue. On the ocean, check. Historic sprawling house with manicured gardens and lawns, check. A oceanfront tent that fits up to 250 guests comfortably, also check.  It truly has a little bit of everything for everyone.

THE OVERVIEW

I have worked many Misselwood weddings now and each time I find something new to love. The guest experience is always something to watch as they are led from the beautiful facade of the house with the laid brick drive way and the ivy covered exterior to the sprawling lawn where the ceremony takes place. Old trees overhang and Rosa Rugosa bushes line the perimeter of the property. After the ceremony the guests are led down to the lower half of the venue to a seasonal oceanfront tent. There they enjoy cocktail hour as well as dinner and dancing.

This venue is great for any couple that wants to host a large tented wedding on the ocean and have an appreciation for classic architecture and detail. Located 20 miles North of Boston it also provides overnight accommodations up to 800 people within the surrounding facilities off venue. This is perfect for anyone who has guests that are flying or would just like the option to stay overnight.

A WORD FROM ME

Not to be missed from a Photographer’s standpoint are taking photos in the interior of the house. The house lends itself to different colors, style and feel. Each room has its own personality and is one of my favorite spaces on the property.

For a large bridal party a great place to do Bridal Party Portraits is the front of the house. The lush landscaping against the brick gives the photographs some depth and is a great way to beat the harsh sunlight.

This property has so many great spots that I recommend allowing extra time in the schedule to accommodate different scenery and lighting opportunities for all of your portraits. Take advantage of each location so that you have plenty of variety in your gallery. Depending on the time of year you get married there will be different colors within the landscape to add some depth to your imagery. Try and sneak out at sunset for a couple photos on the rocks. Not to be missed!

THE BOTTOM LINE

It’s Northshore’s Gem for a reason. It provides a classic and timeless backdrop for the couple that doesn’t want to have to do much to a space. There’s also a lot of opportunity to create an even more elevated design, especially in the spaces like the large tent. Some ideas for the couple who would want to take the decor slightly further would be to drape and light the ceiling of the tent. It creates a more romantic and intimate feeling. All in all there’s lots of opportunity at every turn to put in your own personal touch as a couple.

ONE LAST WORD

While the venue offers a portion of the time for the couple to get ready it’s only a small portion. A great way to reduce the stress of coordinating transportation would be to book a couple of rooms at the hotel located on the adjacent property. There you can get ready with your bridal party and arrive seamlessly to your venue when the time comes.
